The resonant heating and acceleration of minor ions in the solar wind by interactions with either dispersive or nondispersive undamped ion-cyclotron waves are investigated. The quasi-linear relaxation of the moments of the solar wind minor ions distributions in resonance with a spectrum of ion-cyclotron waves is examined to determine which parameters describing the waves or the particles are significant in the heating and acceleration processes. Numerical evaluation of the heating and acceleration rates implies that the heating rate is proportional to the mass of the ion, with a tendency for heavy ions to be heated faster than in direct proportion to their masses when the waves are dispersive. Dispersive waves are also found to lead to (heavy) ion velocities greater than alpha particle velocities which are greater than proton velocities, and nondispersive waves to lead to ion velocities on the order of alpha particle velocities. Heating and accelerations rates are also found to be sensitive to the temperature anisotropy of the ion distribution and the wave dispersion relation.
