A new method for detection of neutrinos and antineutrinos which gives total cross sections for single crystals larger than those obtained by earlier methods (by more than 10 to the 20th) is reviewed, and possible ways of obtaining directivity are discussed. The method is based on a synthesis of coherent scattering theory and the solid state physics of crystals. It is limited to weakly interacting incident particles. Anisotropic crystals and large crystals with a long hole in the center are considered as additional sources for providing directional information.
