Quantitative estimation — based on extrapolated data of radioactivity and reasonable assumptions about the radiolytic effect ofβ --particles on amino acids — shows that an asymmetry greater than the statistical fluctuation in the number of L-, and D-amino acid molecules could have been produced byβ --decay during chemical evolution.
