Exact analytic expressions (in terms of confluent hypergeometric functions) for the probability amplitudes describing the oscillations of two (flavour) neutrinos in matter with exponentially varying (electron number) density are derived. It is shown that the transition probabilities they determine reduce to the well-known one in the limiting cases of (i) zero matter density (oscillations in vacuum), (ii) adiabatic transitions for small neutrino mixing angles, and (iii) extreme non-adiabatic transitions. The results obtained can be used for description of matter-enhanced solar neutrino oscillations which can take place when the solar neutrinos propagate from the interior to the surface of the sun.
