The significance of nonlinearity characteristics in the behavior of tides and gravity waves is evaluated. The method employed in the study of nonlinear phenomena is based on an amplitude development. An expression which takes into account viscous damping and thermal conduction is introduced. The modification of the form of atmospheric hodographs due to nonlinearity effects is considered and attention is given to the probability of the existence of secondary waves which can propagate freely.
