Iapetus: Perturbations, Iapetus: Orbital Evolution
Scientific paper
The secular motion of the orbit plane of Iapetus is characterised by perturbations due to the actions of the Sun, Titan and (to a lesser degree) the oblateness of Saturn. If the disturbing function is restricted to those terms containing only the inclination and node of Iapetus it is possible to eliminate short-period terms and medium-period solar perturbations and to consider only the secular part of the motion of the orbit plane.
