We propose to obtain modest ACIS-I imaging of a high-redshift protocluster. This field was discovered from an optical/near-IR imaging survey and possesses a large excess of extremely red objects (EROs). Deep Keck spectroscopy confirms the EROs are old galaxies at z=1.31, making our target the highest redshift field of old galaxies known. Based on the field's morphology, we suspect it is not gravitationally-bound, but rather still in the process of formation. Hence, detection of its diffuse X-ray ICM would best be suited to XMM-Newton observations. Here we propose to employ Chandra's superb angular resolution to search for bright point sources in the field. This provides a pilot study for this protocluster, laying the necessary groundwork for future, deeper X-ray studies.
