We propose to obtain ACIS-I deep imaging of one of the highest redshift massive clusters known to date, RDCS1252-29 at z=1.235. This is the most X-ray luminous of the four clusters at z>1 discovered in the RDCS. Extensive VLT spectroscopy and the presence of strong lensing features suggest a high velocity dispersion (~900 km/s). In combination with scheduled HST/ACS observations, the Chandra data will allow us to measure the physical properties of this remote system. This will include: 1) studying the gas spatial distribution, to be compared with the light distribution from the cluster galaxies; 2) measuring the ICM temperature; 3) determining the cluster mass, to be compared with independent estimates from weak/strong lensing analysis, and velocity dispersion of member galaxies.
