Results are presented from a statistical analysis of the interplanetary data set obtained from the primary mission of Helios 2 (i.e., data from the first 4 months), with special attention given to the origin of low cross-helicity regions in the inner solar wind. Results showed that: (1) the local generation of Alfven modes is not common in the solar wind, (2) the radial evolution of normalized cross-helicity is mainly due to the continuous destruction of the outward modes rather than to the presence of inward modes, and (3) inward modes are likely to be representative of plasma structures convected by the solar wind rather than of propagating Alfvenic fluctuations.
