An investigation is made of precipitating electrons associated with westward traveling surges. Using auroral and particle data from the DMSP 32 satellite in 1974, 28 surge events are studied from west, east, and inside the surge front. It is found that: (1) electron precipitations associated with a bright arc to the west of a surge are like those of quiet evening discrete arcs, (2) the precipitated energy flux amounts to tens of ergs/sq cm s sr along the surge front, (3) an unusually hard spectrum occurs throughout the region of bright irregular discrete auroras inside the main body of a surge, and (4) there is a region of nonuniform diffuse auroras to the east of a westward traveling surge, and its precipitation is not as intense as that inside the surge.
