The Multiple Mirror Telescope (MMT) incorporates many novel technological features, thereby serving as a test bed or prototype for future telescopes. Features of particular importance in this respect are the MMT altitude-over-azimuth mount, the corotating MMT building, lightweight honeycomb primary mirrors, multiple mirror optics configuration, active optical coalignment of the mirrors, and the ability to do interferometry using two or more of the total six 180-cm f/2.7 Cassegrain telescopes comprising the system.
