S. Chandra (1964) has recently questioned the correctness of the current theory of ionospheric diffusion. In this paper I consider afresh and in greater detail the problem of ambipolar diffusion in the F2-region and conclude that contrary to Chandra's claim the current approximate theory is valid as it stands. Some points raised in Chandra's paper are also cleared up.
