Progress has been made in developing a physics-based numerical model of Earth's inner radiation belt with coupling to the plasmasphere, ionosphere, and neutral atmosphere. Cosmic ray albedo neutron decay (CRAND) source rates are determined by Monte Carlo simulation, proton energy losses are by ionization of neutrals and to free electrons, they are directly lost in nuclear reactions, and the weakening geomagnetic dipole causes adiabatic heating. Empirical inputs are the cosmic ray intensity, geomagnetic field, neutral and plasma densities, solar radio flux or sunspot number, nuclear collision cross sections, and the radial diffusion coefficient. Results quantify the CRAND contribution to the radiation belt proton population and elucidate the mechanisms that control its evolution. Plans for further development include the addition of solar and secondary particle sources.
