1239 Earth Rotation Variations
Scientific paper
We investigate those methods for the studies of the secular variation of Earth's rotation, especially applied to Chinese ancient celestial observation data, such as ancient solar and lunar eclipses, lunar occultations of the planets and occulations between planets and stars, and those recovered data by ancient calendars. It's believed that the crux of the matter is not only lack of enough data, but also the historical data's reliability, integrity and continuity. In fact, there are two key problems no doubt face to us, the first is how to obtain new data and the second is how to launch new methods. But the second one is much important as different methods correspond to different data. And the discussion for the new progresses in this aspect is also given.
