Identifying galaxy clusters that have undergone recent mergers is a major obstacle to the study of the effects of mergers on cluster constituents. ``Cold fronts may provide a solution. To investigate this, we have selected a sample of clusters with well-defined cold fronts from the Chandra archive. Thermal and radio properties of the intracluster medium (ICM), and the dynamics and recent star formation histories of the galaxies will be determined and related to the dynamical state of the cluster. Here we propose to observe Abell 1201, one of the less well studied clusters from our sample. Data from XMM-Newton will enable us to map the thermal structure of its ICM, especially on large scales, to examine the effects of its ongoing merger.
