The observations from Skylab have provided a great deal of information concerning 'post'-flare loops, and the Kopp-Pneuman (1976) model has been remarkably successful in explaining their basic properties. The present investigation is concerned with a more detailed consideration of the ohmic heating. Attention is given to slow-shock heating, the slow-shock heating of 'post'-flare loops, and the global reconnection process. It is found that the heating and rise-speed of 'post'-flare loops can, in all stages of their evolution, be attributed to slow magnetohydrodynamic shock waves. By varying the inflow parameters a wide range of loop temperatures can be obtained.
