The investigation takes into account information provided by Pioneer 11, Voyager 1, and Voyager 2. The exploration of Saturn's ring system is one of the most significant results of the two Voyager space missions. A number of photographs obtained during this exploration are presented and the characteristics of the ring system are discussed. A graph shows a simplified representation of Saturn's ring system, taking into account the area from the planetary surface to a distance of 2.8 planetary radii from the center of the planet. The appearance and the properties of the planet itself are also considered, giving attention to cloud structures, changes in the size of the cloud cover, cloud and wind systems, wind velocities, the planetary energy budget, and the existence of a solid-rock planetary nucleus with a mass which is three times the mass of the earth.
