Rita Colwell, who has served as director of the U.S. National Science
Foundation since August 1998, steps down from that position on 21
February. After fulfilling most of her 6-year term, Colwell will assume
the chairmanship of Canon U.S. Life Sciences, Inc., an Arlington,
Virginia-based subsidiary of Canon USA, Inc.
