Due to technological improvements, in about five years, mm arrays have completely changed our knowledge of protoplanetary disks. In particular, sub-arcsecond images of the dust and gas distribution allow for the first time accurate modelling of their properties. At IRAM, we intensively used the Plateau de Bure interferometer to investigate the physical properties of the circumstellar disks found around low-mass TTauri stars in the Taurus-Auriga clouds. Studies of the circumbinary disk of GG Tau and of the circumstellar disk of DM Tau are among the best examples showing the fast evolution and potential of mm interferometers. They can easily be extrapolated to the needs for the future mm arrays.
