Presented here are the preliminary results from mid-infrared spectro-polarimetric observations of 37 star forming regions. The spectro-polarimetric data provides information on the polarization mechanism and the magnetic field direction. From spectro-polarimetry it also possible to separate both absorptive and emissive polarization components. In a sub-sample of these sources which show clear bi-polar outflows and disk structures the field direction in the disks of the observed sources is most often normal to the ambient field direction and lies in the plane of the disk. This indicates a toroidal rather than poloidal field configuration.
