The Kuiper Belt represents the most primitive material known in the solar system and is the source of a wide variety of outer solar system bodies (e.g., short-period comets, Pluto-Charon, Triton). Although ground-based surveys continue to yield new Kuiper Belt objects (KBOs), little is known about their physical properties, due to the scarcity of KBOs bright enough (red magnitude m_R ≤ 21) for detailed physical studies. We propose to increase the sample of large, bright KBOs by a factor of ~ 10. These large KBOs will provide ideal targets for spectroscopy.
