The High-z Supernova Search Team (this proposal) and the Supernova Cosmology Project (Perlmutter et al.) have been awarded time in Cycle 8 with HST to follow Type Ia supernovae at higher reshifts to verify (or disprove) the results of an accelerating Universe. In particular, the High-Z team has been awarded 40 orbits to follow 8 Type Ia supernovae at z=0.5 and z=0.85. We are proposing to find SNe for the HST run with two ground-based search programs: one at CTIO (this proposal) and one at CFHT. The CFHT time will be also used to find SNe at z=1.2 which will be followed from the ground in rest-frame UBV using VLT, Keck, and UKIRT time (if granted). We are asking for 2+2 nights for the search and one final night for followup photometry. We are also asking for 4 nights on the 1.5m to obtain RI photometric calibrations of the fields where supernovae have been discovered.
