Photoelectric observations are presented which demonstrate the variability of the light curve of the short-period eclipsing binary BH Virginis. BH Vir was observed on eight nights between March 22 and 31, 1977 in B and in narrow band spectral regions centered at 5125 A (continuum) and 5170 A (Mg b triplet). The resulting light curves exhibit significant night-to-night magnitude differences, although the color indices of the three spectral band measurements remain almost constant in all phase intervals. Striking differences between the present measurements and observations made in 1963-64 are noted as regards the absence of a reflection effect in 1977 and the decreased difference between the minimum depths. It is concluded that both components of BH Vir are intrinsically variable and have nonuniform brightness distributions, consistent with the classification of the binary as a short-period RS CVn system.
