The possibility of nuclear gamma Cherenkov radiation (NGCR) produced by charged particles (e.g. leptons, protons etc.) passing through a nuclear medium is investigated with a view to astrophysical implications. It is shown that due to its coherence property the NGCR can be one of the most favourite mechanisms for the production of gamma rays in some important VHEGR/UHEGR cosmic sources (e.g. Crab, Vela Pulsars, Cygnus X-3, Vela X-1). For the identification of the NGCR nature of parts of the observed gamma ray fluxes more experimental data are needed, and in addition polarization measurements are suggested.
