It is demonstrated that vertical profiles of the volume and integrated intensities of O II 731.9-3.0 emission can be accurately approximated by the Chapman formula. Three parameters of the emission profile, the height scale, the height maximum, and the volume intensity in the layer maximum, are investigated; and the relationship between these parameters and the parameters of the upper atmosphere and short-wave solar radiation are established.
