The various detected radio emission components of the earth, Jupiter, and Saturn and their response to solar wind fluctuations are considered. The hierarchy of planetary magnetospheres is discussed, and it is noted that a certain degree of complexity is necessary for the generation of planetary radio emission. It is shown that the auroral kilometric radiation and the Saturnian kilometric radiation are influenced more strongly by the solar wind than any Jovian radio component, possibly due to the high degree to which many processes within the Jovian magnetosphere are driven by internal energy sources. Recent findings of Uranus radio emissions are also discussed, and it is suggested that it is unlikely that the solar wind has a dominating influence.
