Solar Magnetic Fields: Small-Scale Structure
Scientific paper
This paper describes the properties of small-scale magnetic elements. Based on time sequences of deep magnetograms obtained at the Big Bear Solar Observatory, some progress was made in intranetwork's morphology dynamics and some quantitative aspects. The flux of intranetwork (IN) magnetic elements ranges from 1016Mx to 2×1018Mx, with a peak distribution at 6×1016Mx. The lifetimes of IN elements ranged from 0.2 hr to 7.5 hr with the mean of 2.1 hr. The evolution of IN magnetic elements includes the appearance and disappearance patterns, the interaction between IN and network elements. By tracing individual elements, the authors have measured horizontal velocity and studied motion patterns of IN magnetic elements.
