The author reviews the computations of the 3-D coronal magnetic field with observed photospheric magnetograms as boundary conditions under the general (non-constant-α) force-free assumption. These methods can perhaps be divided into 4 classes according to their mathematical bases for practical implementations. The advantages and limitations of each method are discussed and the author studies, in particular, some interesting properties, e.g., the uniqueness of the solution and error analysis of the BEM (boundary element method). The applications to reconstruct 3-D magnetic fields from boundary data by the BEM appear successful and perspective.
