A homogeneous model is used to investigate the thermal state of Mercury's crust at various thermographic latitudes and longitudes. The maximum midday temperature, at 0 and 180 deg longitude, may differ from the minimum, at 90 and 270 deg, by as much as 130 K. A near-equilibrium temperature distribution over latitude is found on the planet's illuminated hemisphere. The thermal parameter, gamma, is estimated to be 600 plus or minus 100, implying that the material in Mercury's crust and that in the moon's crust have about the same structure.
