We have searched unsuccessfully for several benzene derivatives and one 4-membered ring molecule. It is argued that a relative under-abundance of such ring molecules compared to non-ring molecules is consistent with the formation of interstellar molecules by gas-phase ion-molecule reactions, and may be inconsistent with their formation on the surfaces of interstellar grains.
