A metric is derived for a hierarchical cosmology with a density falling off away from the local origin in a series of systems. It is assumed that the universe is approximately spherically symmetric about any observer. Other assumptions are related to the decrease in density and the existence of a more compact universe in the past. Questions regarding the open or closed nature of space-time are discussed along with the dynamical equations. The metric curvature is considered and attention is given to the characteristics of constant curvature models. It is found that there are available several types of plausible hierarchical model for the universe.
