We present the results of high spatial resolution VLA HI observations of the Local Group galaxy NGC 6822. The HI images reveal a complex and clumpy interstellar medium with a large extent relative to the optically visible galaxy. The HI distribution is found to be a flattened rotating disk, with solid body rotation in its inner parts and a flat rotation curve beyond the optical extent. The detailed HI kinematics are complex. Shell structures are found over a large range of size scales, and there is clear evidence of expansion in some of the shells. The HI line profile shapes are compared to the CO emission line profile shapes presented by Wilson (1992).
