The history of research on the chromospheric and coronal heating is introduced briefly. With the continuous progress of space solar observations, it has been revealed that solar magnetic fields play very important roles in the heating. Here the author discusses four mechanism concerning Alfvén waves, MHD turbulences, field-aligned currents and magnetic field line reconnections. Since the availability of these mechanisms should be tested through high sensitive solar observations, advanced space solar observations are very important for future research.
