Proxima Centauri is found to have a rate of flare production rather less than stars of similar luminosity, but very much greater than stars of similar age and higher luminosity, supporting the supposition that very low luminosity red dwarfs flare irrespective of age. The observations appear to be consistent with a two-component flare model which has hydrogen recombination as the main component.
