We study the expected number of atmospheric upward muon neutrino events in a neutrino telescope of ultra high energy. For this computation we introduce the atmospheric neutrino flux, the survival probability, the deep inelastic neutrino-nucleon cross section and the range of muon in a homogeneous medium. As a first application we analyze the sensitivity that these detectors could have to test the effects of Non Standard Interactions of neutrinos with matter.
