We are observing HCG 87 as part of the Hubble Heritage Project. The aim of the Heritage Project is to provide spectacular HST color images for public release, outreach, and education. The Hickson compact groups of galaxies {HCGs} represent a site of freq uent giant galaxy interactions, and provide an opportunity to study these processes in a controlled present day environment. They are the sights of present-day galaxy formation in the form of tidal dwarf galaxies forming in the debris of interactions, and also likely of globular star cluster formation such as seen in "the Antennae" and other isolated interacting pairs. HCG87 distinguishes itself as one of the most "active" HCGs, hosting two AGNs and a starburst among its three members, all of which show signs of interaction. Thus multi-color WFPC2 observations provide an ideal opportunity to study the relationships between these processes. We propose B {5 orbits}, V {2 orbits}, R {2 orbits}, and I {1 orbit} -band obse rvations of HGC87, the deepest ima ges of any Hickson compact group. The observing strategy will enable us to detect tidal debris {S/N=2.2} and map its structure, to map regions of star formation and place them in an evolutionary sequence, and to search for dwarf galaxies associated w ith the giant galaxies and at large in the group. The three giant galaxies themselves present a rich variety: a large "boxy" spiral with a prominent dust lane and an AGN {87a}, a nearby lenticular that also houses an AGN {87b}, and the northernmost spiral {87c} that is a possible starburst. The sequence of star formation mapped spatially throughout this group may be the best opportunity to sequence the interplay between interactions and the different levels of star formation acting from the tidal debris in through the central engines of these galaxies.
