A method for testing photometric accuracy of various detectors is presented. This simulation may be applied to detectors that are still in the design / development phase and includes detailed calculations to measure the predicted accuracy of the detector-to-be-built. This approach investigates the effect of a variable point spread function (PSF) across the field of view as compared to other sources of error including off-axis effects and vignetting, shot noise and sky background noise. In particular, this paper takes a first look at the proposed IR camera for the SOAR telescope (designed by Kuhn and Loh, Michigan State University) and its photometric capability.
