We can better understand our Galactic halo through observations of oter galaxies. NGC 891 is well suited for this purpose, because it is edge-on. The long spectrograph slit can be placed perpendicular to the galaxy plane to provide information on the chemical composition and excitation with hight above the plane. Emissions are expected to be weak, based on recent HST observations carried out in this program of NGC 4631 and they can be infered from optical observations by Rand, Kulkarni and Hester ApJ, 352, L1, 1990 and keppel, Dettmar, Gallagher and Roberts, ApJ, 374, 507, 1991. The slit should be a near perpendicular to the galactic plane as possible which places a constraint on the position angle, making the observation time or orient critical. It is best observed in early November for this reason as the alternative PA places the telescope in the Solar avoidance zone.
