Scientific paper

Predictions of possible star occultations by the four largest minor planets are presented for the years 1981-1989. Predicted occultations of stars down to magnitude 9-10 during this time period for planets Ceres, Pallas, Vesta, and Hygiea are computed and tabulated based on data from previously calculated ephemerides. Possible errors include up to 1-2 arcsec in the orbital latitude of the planet, relative to the star, and a cross-track error exceeding 1000 kilometers.
