The characteristics of the ultraviolet extinction in the galactic plane are studied on the basis of ANS satellite data of about 1000 early type stars. It is shown that the extinction varies from one star to another and the range of the variations were found to be as large as the variations between the 22 areas along the galactic equator. The data indicate that the extinction is more variable in the surroundings of supergiants than in other parts of the sky; however, in the vicinity of the sun a greater uniformity was observed.
