There are a variety of videoconferencing technologies that EPO providers can use for their projects and programs. Applications, to name just a few, include teacher professional development, classroom presentations, and project team meetings. Prices range from completely free for simple web-based (IP network) systems (excluding start-up costs such as computers, webcams, and Internet access) to a few to many thousands of dollars for systems that run over the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), which provides the highest quality video and audio conferencing available today. Browser-based systems provide multi-user viewing and chatting capabilities, although video/audio is mostly one-way and quality is the major limiting factor for employing such a system. Each system investigated should be judged based on provider and user needs and rated for both pros and cons regarding reliability and quality, setup, ease of access and use, and overall value vs. costs.
