The author discusses a proposed search for non-luminous massive compact objects in the galactic halo that is sensitive enough to detect the so-called "missing mass" of our galaxy. This search focuses on the detection of light amplification from distant stars that accompanies the general-relativistic light deflection by massive bodies (gravitational "microlensing"); it would be sensitive to astrophysical objects in the 10-1 - 10-6 solar mass range. He describes the first results of a feasibility study.
