The structure and dynamics of the innermost region of the Galaxy, about 150 light years in diameter, are discussed. The existence of a black hole at the center, the dynamic effects of a point mass consisting of a million solar masses, and evidence for an explosion and for high-luminosity radiative sources at the center are examined. Magnetic fields and relativistic electrons and the spatial distribution of interstellar materials in the area are considered. The latest findings about the Galactic center from the 30-m millimeter radio telescope are reviewed. The development of a physical model of the Galactic center is addressed.
