The possibility that Lyman alpha clouds cluster around heavy-element QSO absorption systems has been explored using a sample of 18 QSOs. No signal is found and the Lyman alpha forest clouds seems to be insensitive to the galaxy distribution. The galaxy-cloud cross-correlation function predicted in biased scenarios for the formation of structures in the universe is somewhat larger than that observed.
