An optical linear polarization map of Re 10 shows it to be a bipolar
reflection nebula whose central illuminating source is totally obscured
at visible wavelengths by a circumstellar disk. The object is in the
direction of the Coalsack and its association with this dark cloud makes
it the first example of star formation in the region.
