With a Fabry-Perot spectrometer, a sample of 14 highly evolved objects was observed in the forbidden O III line 5007, H I line 6563, and forbidden N II line 6584 to study the late stages of the expansion of planetary nebulae. The mean expansion velocity of these objects is smaller than that of moderately evolved (R about 0.2 pc) planetary nebulae. Highly evolved planetary nebulae in the galactic plane exhibit a smaller expansion velocity than those at large distances from the plane. These effects might be caused by a wane of the stellar wind from the nuclei of the planetary nebulae or by a population effect of the progenitors. A deceleration by the ambient interstellar medium might also lead to a decrease of the expansion velocity.
