As a primer for experimentalists interested in the topic, I provide a
brief introduction to X-ray photoionized plasmas, with primary emphasis
on the astrophysical concepts, including general descriptions of the
relevant object classes, a discussion of the X-ray nebular concept, and,
in some detail, the ionization parameter.
