On the basis of a series of high-dispersion spectrograms of P Cygni the authors have concluded that there exists a relatively slowly varying background profile of the absorption lines (characteristic time 100d - 120d) and a structure of some rapidly varying small components (characteristic time some days). The fine structure is caused, most probably, by the inhomogeneity of matter outflow from P Cygni. The features of the background profile (e.g. the maximum of the whole absorption component) have a periodic trend from initial Doppler shift to the higher shift values with a rather sharp restoration of the initial state.
