Radio observations at 1.3 and 6 cm wavelength with resolutions up to 1arcsec of the H II region in the Mon R2 molecular cloud are presented. The radio structure is very similar to that indicated by the 10 and 20 μm wavelength maps of the region obtained by Beckwith et al. (1976). The peak of the radio emission is located on the bright edge of an almost circular source, approximately 27arcsec in diameter. The position of the ionizing star (obscured at visible wavelengths) is derived from a comparison of the radio and IR maps, and is found to be displaced from the radio peak. The general morphology suggests an interpretation in terms of a "blister" type structure of the H II region with the 27arcsec diameter component still partially within the molecular cloud. Comparison of the observed structure with the predicted evolutionary patterns and expansion time scales of blisters indicates an advanced stage of the evolution.
