Comet P/Crommelin (1983n) was observed from 1 - 20 μm at the NASA IRTF March 29 - April 1, 1984. The thermal emission spectrum fits a black body of ≡290K, cooler than other comets observed at 1 AU. The ratio of thermal to scattered radiation indicates that these grains were extremely dark with a geometric albedo of ≡0.015 at J (1.25 μm) and 0.02 at K (2.25 μm). The 10 μm flux distribution on 1 April was very asymmetric, decreasing rapidly on the sunward side, <6000 km from the nucleus, and extended in the north and east. The spatial distribution and photometric data suggest that the authors were viewing large grains emitted from the nucleus at very low velocity.
